A dog will always perk up for a game even if they are feeling unwell because they love to have that interaction with their human masters. Although it does sound a bit silly it takes a lot of trust between the owner and the dog to form that bond.

It isn’t easy but it can certainly be very rewarding, and you gain a best friend out of it!
