How can we get rid of ticks in our yard and on our dog. We have tried all types of sprays & pet products?

by admin on February 8, 2010

Our dog when she goes out always comes in with ticks. We cannot seem to get rid of them in the yard or on her. Its awful for her to have so many ticks that we have to pick them out of her or they fall out onto the carpet and crawl onto our walls. We have tried industrial sprays and all pet products that were recommended. Nothing works…. Help

Use a monthly flea and tick product on your dog (Advantix, Sentinal, Revolution, etc), and any other cat or dog that comes in and out of your house. Use it consistently every month and you will reduce the flea and tick population to nothing in your yard, house, and on your dog.

Malathion dust will harm your dog, do NOT use it on any animal.

Have you tried Advantage /Frontline from the vet. I use it and my dogs NEVER have flies or ticks. It is applied monthly. As for your yard, have it professionally treated for fleas/ticks. We had this done on the yard at a day care I use to work at and it worked great.

HAVE YOU TRIED FRONTLINE? That stuff really works and its water proof, also, ticks die when put in alcohol, not beer, the stuff you buy in the store. So if you just take the ticks off every time, rub butter on the spot cause that loosens it, then pull straight up, no twisting, and then immediately put in alcohol

honestly i don’t think you can kill every tick in your yard but give it a long flea/tick bath and just pull all the ticks out but you have to grab them by the noses with tweezer’s because the ticks tounge/nose been on other animals and things and if squeeze it by end can make all the blood from other animals and diseases from it injected into your pet so be careful

Yes that is so awful, talk to your veterinarian right away, there is a liquid they can put on your dog. Ticks in California are like sun flower seed size, and move fast when you pull them off, so I put them in a jar and sealed it each plucking, I was hard but to avoid lime disease is more important. The season usually is at the end of spring, right about now, I don’t take my puppy into the mountains at season change. Change the yard or where you allow your dog to go. Stay safe.

Maybe try a higher quality product! Or ask a bug terminotor that does it for a living. They know what to use. If your buying the products from a discount store, then your throing your money away. I used to use liqued diazinon, but they took it off the market. It worked great! As far as the dogs, try a product made by Adams, they have good spray and shampoo with conditioners in it. Most cheaper brands dont, hence drying the skin, and inviting more problms. Bless ya for caring for your pets!
